The Pokémon Asia Championship Series has officially announced that the Video Game Championship (VGC) will be moving away from Pokémon Scarlet & Violet as its competitive title, with Pokémon Champions set to take its place gradually across regions.
Leading the charge in Southeast Asia is Malaysia, whose Master Ball League (MBL) will be the first in the region to officially adopt Pokémon Champions as the VGC title. Other Southeast Asian countries — Thailand, Singapore, and Taiwan are set to follow Malaysia’s lead in the transition.

For the 2025-26 Malaysia Master Ball League VGC Division, Pokémon Champions will serve as the official competitive software. The game is compatible with both the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, so players have flexibility on which hardware they use to compete.
One notable update this season is the addition of extra Worlds invites for younger competitors. As in past seasons, players across all age groups will compete together in the same division. However, the Junior and Senior Divisions will now have four additional Worlds qualification spots set aside specifically for them, on top of the ten spots available across all age categories.
This gives up-and-coming players a better shot at making it to the World Championships, which is a welcome change for the competitive community. With Malaysia kicking things off, this season marks a significant step in the region’s competitive Pokémon scene. It will be the first time Pokémon Champions is used as an official VGC title in Southeast Asia, making this season one to watch for players and fans in the region alike.
