Sony has released a new system update for the PlayStation 5 that brings two major features to the console. The update started rolling out globally on September 17, 2025. The biggest change in this update is how DualSense wireless controllers work with different devices. Before this update, players had to pair their controller again every time they wanted to use it with a different device like a PC, Mac, or phone.
Now, the DualSense and DualSense Edge controllers can remember up to four devices at once. This means you can easily switch between your PS5, computer, and mobile device without going through the pairing process each time. To set this up, you press the PS button along with one of the face buttons (triangle, circle, X, or square) for more than 5 seconds while the controller is off. Each button combination represents a different slot:
- Triangle + PS button = Slot 1
- Circle + PS button = Slot 2
- X + PS button = Slot 3
- Square + PS button = Slot 4
Once you’ve registered devices, switching between them takes about 3 seconds. You just hold the PS button and the face button for the device you want to connect to.

The update also adds a Power Saver mode that helps reduce how much electricity the PS5 uses. When turned on, supported games will use less power by scaling back some performance features. This feature is part of Sony’s environmental plan to reach zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040. Right now, only certain games will support this feature. Sony mentioned that Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Demon’s Souls, and Ghost of Yōtei will get Power Saver support in future game updates, with more titles planned.
