In a funny twist, Pico Park creator Shunsuke Miyake accidentally made Pico Park: Classic Edition free forever on Steam. The 2016 version of the cooperative puzzle game is now available to download and keep permanently with no expiration date required.
A Simple Mistake with Permanent Consequences
Miyake planned to make Pico Park: Classic Edition free for a short period. However, he forgot about Valve’s rule where once a game switches from “paid” to “free,” it can never return to being paid.

In a translated post, Miyake shared his reaction:
“When I got a message from Steam saying, ‘Hey, you already made it free once in 2021. You can’t go back to paid. You agreed to it when you made it free,’ all I could do was laugh. So, please enjoy the free version of Pico Park!”
Since this marks the second time the game became free where the first was in 2021 when Pico Park launched, its free status is now permanent.
A Happy Accident for Fans

Miyake didn’t seem upset by the situation. Instead, he felt happy that more players could enjoy his game. Pico Park: Classic Edition still receives updates alongside Pico Park and Pico Park 2, showing Tecopark’s continued support for the series.
He encouraged newcomers to explore other entries in the franchise:
“If you play this free version and have fun, try the series too. It’s weird that this one can be played with 10 people, huh?”
A Timeless Indie Success

Originally released in 2016, Pico Park: Classic Edition quickly became a viral indie hit for its simple yet chaotic co-op gameplay. Players work together to solve puzzles, but teamwork often turns into hilarious moments of confusion and laughter.
Later versions, including Pico Park (2021) and the upcoming Pico Park 2, added online multiplayer and improved visuals. Even so, fans still love the Classic Edition for its nostalgic charm and straightforward fun. Thanks to this happy accident, the game that started it all is now free to download and keep forever on Steam.
