Blizzard Entertainment has officially announced Overwatch Rush, a brand-new top-down hero shooter built specifically for iOS and Android devices. The game is currently in the early stages of development, and a release date has not been confirmed.

Designed from the ground up for mobile platforms, Overwatch Rush aims to deliver fast-paced, hero-driven combat tailored for on-the-go sessions while remaining faithful to the Overwatch universe.

A Mobile-First Hero Shooter

Unlike the mainline Overwatch titles, Overwatch Rush adopts a top-down perspective. The gameplay focuses on quick matches, intuitive touch controls, and hero-centric customization. Blizzard describes the experience as suitable for both team-based coordination and solo play.

The development team emphasizes bite-sized sessions without sacrificing depth. Players can expect core hero shooter mechanics reimagined for mobile devices, ensuring accessibility and responsiveness across a wide range of hardware.

Importantly, Overwatch Rush is being developed by a dedicated Blizzard team separate from Team 4, which continues to focus entirely on the primary Overwatch game. According to Blizzard, this mobile project will not impact ongoing development of the core franchise.

Limited Geo Testing and Development Plans

Blizzard has confirmed that early testing will be limited to select countries and regions. This phased rollout allows the team to gather feedback, refine gameplay systems, and optimize performance for different devices and network conditions.

Players outside the designated test regions will not be able to participate at this stage. Blizzard encourages interested fans to follow updates and provide feedback through the official Discord channel.

The company also notes that Overwatch Rush will evolve significantly over time. The initial limited geo test will include a curated selection of heroes, maps, and game modes designed to ensure stability and balance. Additional content, events, and updates are planned as development progresses.

Device Requirements and Performance Targets

Blizzard has outlined minimum specifications for supported devices. On Android, the game requires at least 3GB of RAM and chipsets such as Snapdragon 480, 675, 720G, 730, or 765, alongside select MediaTek Dimensity and Exynos processors. The Samsung A14 5G is listed as a minimum reference device.

For iOS users, Overwatch Rush requires at least 3GB of RAM and an A12 chipset or newer. Supported devices include iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd Generation), iPhone XS, iPhone XR, and models from iPhone 11 through iPhone 17 Pro.

Controller support is not available in the current version, though Blizzard states it may explore additional input options as development continues.

Free-to-Play Structure

Overwatch Rush will launch as a free-to-play mobile title with optional in-app purchases. Blizzard emphasizes that player skill should remain the primary factor in determining match outcomes. Monetization systems may evolve during testing phases based on community feedback.

With early development underway and testing soon to expand, Overwatch Rush represents Blizzard’s latest effort to bring the Overwatch universe to mobile audiences. More details, including a potential release window, are expected as development progresses.
