Nippon Ichi Software’s CEO has confirmed that the company’s next Disgaea game will showcase major improvements to the studio’s 3D graphics capabilities.
In an interview with South Korean outlet ThisIsGame at Taipei Game Show 2026, CEO Kenzo Saruhashi addressed the studio’s ongoing transition to 3D development. When asked about NIS’s challenges with 3D graphics, Saruhashi acknowledged the company still has ground to cover compared to competitors in creating appealing 3D models and animations.
To address this, NIS has formed an internal team that works across different projects to improve graphical quality throughout all the studio’s games. The company is also bringing in outside design help, though Saruhashi did not provide specific details about these partnerships.

While NIS has several smaller games planned for release in 2026, Saruhashi pointed to the next Disgaea entry as the clearest example of these technical improvements. “Although it’s not something we’re ready to announce yet, we think you’ll be able to see the outcomes of these technical improvements in the latest Disgaea title,” he said.
The CEO also discussed NIS’s current development strategy, which focuses on releasing multiple smaller-scale games rather than concentrating resources on large projects. Last year, the company announced six new games set to launch between 2025 and 2026. Most of these titles are either new experimental properties or ideas that came from employees through NIS’s internal “Nippon Ichi Project Festival” competition.

According to Saruhashi, this approach helps staff members experience the complete development process multiple times—from creating a game and releasing it to receiving player feedback. He believes completing more projects ultimately makes the company better at producing successful games, which is why NIS emphasizes shorter development cycles.
Saruhashi assured fans that NIS remains aware of expectations for its established series and is working to balance experimental projects with anticipated sequels.
