Nintendo has officially announced the main cast for its upcoming live-action The Legend of Zelda movie, with Bo Bragason set to play Princess Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth taking on the role of Link. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on May 7, 2027.

The casting news came through a social media post from Nintendo’s legendary game designer Shigeru Miyamoto, who expressed his excitement about seeing both actors bring the beloved characters to life on the big screen.

Bragason, 21, brings some notable experience to the role, having appeared in Netflix’s fantasy adventure series Renegade Nell and the BBC crime drama The Jetty. Meanwhile, Ainsworth, who is just 16 years old, has fewer credits but made a strong impression in Netflix’s horror series The Haunting of Bly Manor.

The Legend of Zelda movie was first announced in November 2023 and has attracted major industry talent behind the camera. Miyamoto is producing alongside Avi Arad, the former CEO of Marvel Studios. Sony Pictures Entertainment will distribute the film and help finance it along with Nintendo.

The screenplay is being written by Derek Connolly, known for his work on Jurassic World, while Wes Ball, who directed Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, will helm the project.

Originally planned for a March 2027 release, the film has been pushed back to May 7, 2027. The Legend of Zelda series has been one of Nintendo’s most successful franchises since its debut in 1986, known for its adventure gameplay and memorable characters. Moreover, this will mark the first live-action adaptation of the popular video game series.
