Japanese game developer Nihon Falcom has announced major changes to its business strategy, including plans to release more games each year and expand support for Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2 console.
The company shared its updated business plan on December 26, outlining new directions starting from the fiscal year ending in September 2026. According to a report by GameBiz, Falcom currently has six unannounced titles in development as part of this shift. Falcom’s recent releases have performed well, with Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter becoming the company’s most successful Steam launch and Ys X: Proud Nordics also showing solid sales. This success contributed to a 3.5% increase in overall sales year-over-year, reaching approximately $16.7 million USD. Operating profit grew 8.1% while net profit rose 6.0%.

The developer outlined three main goals for future growth:
1. Self-Publishing on Nintendo Platforms
Falcom plans to self-publish major titles on both Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 to strengthen its position in the Japanese market. Beyond the already-announced Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter for Switch 2, the company confirmed it is working on a Switch 2 port of another existing title, though specific details have not been revealed.
2. Broader Multiplatform Reach
The company aims to expand its audience through multiplatform releases, additional language support, and multimedia projects. In 2026, English versions of Trails Beyond the Horizon and Ys Memoire: Revelations in Celceta will launch. Meanwhile, Ys X: Proud Nordics and Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter will receive English, French, German, and Spanish language options.
3. More New Titles Each Year
Falcom acknowledged that while it previously released 4-5 titles per year, most were ports that had limited business impact. The company now plans to increase its output of new games from one per year to two per year over the next three years.

According to the business plan, Falcom has six unannounced projects in the works beyond Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter. This includes two ports (one being the mentioned Switch 2 port) and four brand-new games: a new Trails series entry, a new Ys series game, a new Tokyo Xanadu project, and one other unannounced title.
