Nintendo Confirms Mario Kart Tour Will Shut Down This September

Nintendo has announced that Mario Kart Tour, its mobile racing game for iOS and Android, will end service on September 29 at 11:00 p.m. PT or September 30 at 2:00 a.m. ET. The announcement was shared by the official Mario Kart Tour account. Mario Kart Tour first launched on September 25, 2019. The game has been available on mobile devices since then, offering a version of the Mario Kart series built for phones and tablets.

Service for the Mario Kart Tour game ends on Sept. 29 at 11:00 p.m. PT / Sept. 30 at 8:00 a.m. CEST. Thank you for your support throughout the years. For info on how rubies and the Mario Kart Tour Gold Pass will be handled moving forward, see in-game notifications or FAQ below.

Alongside the shutdown announcement, Nintendo has already stopped the sale of rubies, the game’s premium currency. Players can still use any rubies they already have in the Spotlight Shop, the Mii Racing Suit Shop, and Coin Rush until the game’s service officially ends.

Nintendo has also stopped all automatic renewals and new sign-ups for the Mario Kart Tour Gold Pass, the game’s paid subscription. This change took effect during maintenance on July. A FAQ page has been published explaining how existing and future access to Gold Pass features will work during the time leading up to the shutdown.

According to the FAQ, players whose Gold Pass subscription was still active when the July maintenance began can keep using Gold Pass features, aside from perks tied to continuous subscription, for free until September 29. This also applies to players who were in a free trial at that time.

Players who did not have an active Gold Pass subscription when the maintenance began will not have access to those benefits right away. Instead, they will be able to use Gold Pass features for free starting with the Vacation Tour. With the shutdown date now set, Mario Kart Tour will stop running entirely after nearly seven years of service on mobile devices.
