Perfect World has made changes to a new character’s outfits in Neverness to Everness after players on the game’s Chinese servers complained that her costumes had been “nerfed” compared to how they looked in promotional art shown in other regions.
The character in question is Shinku, a new addition to the game’s Cosmos lineup. When she launched on the Chinese servers, some of her costumes included shorts and spats that were not present in the promotional materials shown internationally. Fans quickly noticed the difference and pushed back, leading to a patch that brought her look back in line with those original designs.
Two costumes were affected. In the Dragon Knight costume, the patch removed Shinku’s black shorts, showing the armor plating underneath instead, which matches how the costume was originally designed. In the Student of Terrasea costume, the change went further, swapping out the spats entirely for a pair of panties.

This isn’t the first time Neverness to Everness has dealt with this kind of fan service. Several female characters in the game already have costumes that reveal frilly underwear when viewed from certain angles. Nanally’s The Popular Kid costume is one example, putting her in a sailor-style school uniform with a skirt that mostly covers her but can show more depending on the pose or when using the game’s photo mode.
Not everyone is happy with the update to Shinku, though. Some players feel her fighting style calls for more practical clothing like shorts or spats, and argue the change doesn’t fit her character. As is often the case with these kinds of debates online, it seems unlikely that every player will end up satisfied no matter which direction the developers go.
What stands out here is how fast Perfect World responded. Version 1.2 went live on the Chinese servers on July 2, and the patch adjusting Shinku’s costumes followed just 12 hours later. Global players will get to experience Shinku with her original, unaltered designs when Version 1.2 rolls out on international servers on July 9.
