Bandai Namco and developer Dimps have shared a new seven-minute gameplay video for Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3, giving fans their first real look at the gameplay. The footage sets the story in AGE 1000, a period not yet explored in the Dragon Ball timeline. Players will create their own hero and team up with familiar Dragon Ball fighters who once defended Earth. This idea of connection between the player’s character and the series’ original heroes is central to the game.
To show this off, the trailer follows a new member of the Great Saiya Squad through an entire mission. It walks through the main gameplay systems, including missions that can be tackled with up to four players. Fights start with groups of regular enemies before building up to tougher boss battles, and players need to adjust their strategy as the difficulty increases. The bond between the player’s character and classic Dragon Ball characters affects how abilities are built and how battles play out.
Combat in Xenoverse 3 revolves around Ki. Players can chip away at an opponent’s Ki using combos, charged attacks, and Ki Drain Super Attacks. Once an enemy’s Ki runs out, they enter a Ki Break state, leaving them open to a Break Smash, a strong finishing move that does far more damage than a regular Super Attack. Super Attacks each come with different secondary effects, while Ultimate Attacks trigger big cinematic hits once their gauge fills up. Every character also has a Battle Style, which shapes their moves and combos and lets players fight with techniques based on well known warriors like Goku and Vegeta.

The trailer also covers two new mechanics called Soul Assist and Soul Switch. Soul Assist lets players call in a Dragon Ball character to perform one of their signature moves once the Assist Gauge is full. Soul Switch goes further, letting players temporarily take on a chosen character’s soul, which changes their appearance and boosts their combat power. Players can also unlock race based transformations, such as Super Saiyan, with more races and playstyles expected to be shown later on.
With this gameplay reveal, Bandai Namco and Dimps have given fans a clearer picture of what to expect from the long awaited sequel, setting the stage for more details as development continues.
