Capcom revealed during Sony’s recent State of Play showcase that Monster Hunter Wilds will receive its first free title update this spring, introducing the fan-favorite monster Mizutsune to the game’s roster. The announcement came alongside the final launch trailer for the highly anticipated action RPG, which releases on February 28.

Mizutsune, a serpentine leviathan first introduced in Monster Hunter Generations (2015), is known for its distinctive bubbly attacks and elegant design inspired by shrine maidens. While the monster was absent from Monster Hunter World, it made a notable appearance in Monster Hunter Rise. The creature has earned popularity among fans for its unique slippery status effect and the powerful water-type weapons that can be crafted from its parts.
The latest footage showcased the game’s dynamic, ever-changing world and introduced two formidable creatures: Jin Dahaad, the apex predator of the Iceshard Cliffs, and a mysterious variant of Rathalos that differs significantly from previous incarnations of the iconic “King of the Skies.”
The spring update of Monster Hunter Wilds will not only bring Mizutsune to the Forbidden Lands but will also include various event quests and additional content that Capcom has yet to detail. Looking further ahead, the developer has already confirmed a second free title update scheduled for summer 2025, which will introduce another monster alongside more event quests.

Monster Hunter Wilds appears to be following in the footsteps of its predecessors with a robust post-launch support plan. While specific details about the “additional updates” remain under wraps, players can expect more information about the game’s update schedule shortly after its February 28 launch.
