Nintendo has released Version 1.2.0 for Mario Kart World, offering a wide range of gameplay updates and technical fixes. Available now on Nintendo Switch 2, this update enhances both online and offline play. The patch fine-tunes item behavior, improves race flow, and fixes long-standing bugs across several maps and modes.
Track Selection and Gameplay Settings Improved

A major change reintroduces lap-type courses into the standard track rotation. These tracks now appear more frequently in VS Race and Wireless Play, offering greater variety. Players can also enjoy improved gameplay customization. In Single Player, you can now set COM racers to “None,” allowing for solo races.
In Single and Multiplayer VS, a new “Mushrooms only” item rule is available. This adds more flexibility when creating custom races.
Time Trials now feature a “View Replay” option after downloading ghost data. This gives players a helpful way to study their performance and improve lap times. Altogether, these options make race setups more dynamic and competitive.
Better Multiplayer Tools and Spectator Options

Nintendo has refined how players experience multiplayer sessions. You can now spectate specific players in Knockout Tour and Balloon Battle across Online Play, Wireless Play, and LAN Play. Additionally, a countdown timer has been added before races or battles begin. These additions enhance clarity and reduce downtime during online sessions.
Camera adjustments in multiplayer also received an upgrade. The game now remembers your camera cursor’s size and position until the game is closed. However, changes to player numbers will reset the view to default. These upgrades streamline how you track action in competitive matches.
In Free Roam, visual feedback is clearer. When all P Switches, ? Panels, and Peach Medallions are collected, map icons will change color. This helps players track completion more easily.
Gameplay and Item Balancing Changes

This update adjusts gameplay balance in several ways. CPU opponents are now weaker across all modes except Battle, making regular races more accessible. The Boomerang’s tracking has been slightly reduced, giving players a fairer chance to dodge it.
Furthermore, Triple Dash Mushroom now appears less often unless item rules are set to “Frantic.” At the same time, ? Block drop rates are increased under normal rules.
The game has also changed how race starts behave. Pressing the acceleration button too early now shows a wheel-spin animation. However, this no longer causes a speed penalty. This small change improves feedback while easing the pressure on newer players.
Massive Bug Fixes and Track Adjustments

Nintendo has resolved dozens of technical issues. Online Play now displays proper ranking and rate values after wireless matches. Stability problems after retiring from Balloon Battle or exiting Free Roam have also been addressed. In addition, various item glitches and HUD errors have been corrected.
Specific tracks saw major improvements. Players will no longer float or fall through the floor due to unstable ramps or half-pipes. Items like Bullet Bills and Mega Mushrooms behave properly now on tricky courses like Choco Mountain, Bowser’s Castle, and Wario Shipyard.
Smart Steering has been fixed on certain slopes where recovery previously failed. The update also repositions missing item boxes and fixes erratic red shell paths.
Visual inconsistencies were tackled too. Rainbow Road’s transformation effects now appear properly, and Starview Peak’s design renders correctly.
Several collision issues and terrain glitches were addressed across tracks such as Shy Guy Bazaar, Dry Bones Burnout, and Moo Moo Meadows. These fixes provide a more polished and visually stable racing experience.
Mario Kart World Version 1.2.0 is now available on Nintendo Switch 2. The full list of the update can be seen here, as it sharpens gameplay, enhances control, and adds important quality-of-life upgrades across all modes. Whether you’re racing solo or battling online, Version 1.2.0 ensures a smoother and more balanced experience.
