Louisiana’s top prosecutor has filed a lawsuit against Roblox, accusing the company of prioritizing profits over child safety. Attorney General Liz Murrill argues that the platform’s lack of safeguards has created an environment where predators thrive.
Allegations Against Roblox
The case, filed in Louisiana’s 21st Judicial District, claims Roblox intentionally or recklessly designed a platform with weak protections. In particular, users can easily create accounts with fake birthdays, which allows children under 13 to bypass restrictions. As a result, adults posing as kids can interact with minors with little oversight.
Furthermore, the lawsuit cites the company’s 2024–25 annual report. It showed that 20% of Roblox’s 82 million daily users were under age nine. Therefore, Murrill argues that Roblox has failed to provide adequate protection.
“Roblox is overrun with harmful content and child predators because it prioritizes user growth, revenue, and profits over child safety,” Murrill said.
Harmful Content Highlighted
In addition, the 42-page suit points to sexually explicit “experiences” on the platform. For example, it names titles such as “Escape to Epstein Island,” “Diddy Party,” and “Public Bathroom Simulator Vibe.”
It also links Roblox to a Louisiana man arrested last month for possessing child sexual abuse material. According to the complaint, he allegedly used voice-altering technology to impersonate a young girl and lure minors on the platform.
Legal Demands
The suit alleges unfair trade practices, negligence, and unjust enrichment. Although it does not specify damages, it asks the court to block Roblox from violating consumer protection laws. Moreover, it seeks to stop the company from promoting its safety features as effective, which the suit calls misleading.
Roblox Responds
However, Roblox denies the accusations. A spokesperson said it is “categorically untrue” that the company would intentionally put users at risk.
The company emphasized its safeguards, such as limits on personal information sharing, link restrictions, and strict content moderation. “Unfortunately, bad actors will try to circumvent our systems,” the spokesperson explained. Still, Roblox says it invests vast resources to counter these attempts.
Meanwhile, the company has made several changes. In November, it added new rules preventing users under 13 from sending direct messages, and it began labeling content with maturity ratings. Furthermore, Roblox highlighted efforts to improve parental controls and expand age-estimation technology.
Broader Criticism
Nevertheless, critics argue Roblox’s safety measures remain inadequate. Hindenburg Research, for example, described the platform as an “X-rated pedophile hellscape.” Roblox rejected that claim, insisting the report was misleading.
The company still faces wider scrutiny. Last year, Bloomberg reported that at least two dozen U.S. predators had used Roblox to groom or abuse children. Consequently, watchdogs say platforms must step up enforcement to protect minors.
Looking ahead, Louisiana’s lawsuit could become a major test of how much responsibility platforms like Roblox bear for user safety. Murrill insists parents must understand the risks. Meanwhile, Roblox is fighting to defend its reputation while keeping its 111 million daily users engaged.
