A branch of Japanese electronics chain Bic Camera has introduced a set of unusual requirements for customers who want to buy the latest Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) set, and one of them is a knowledge quiz. The Bic Camera location in Ikabukuro, Tokyo, posted a sign listing three conditions that must be met before anyone can purchase a box of Mega Evolution: Ninja Spinner cards, which comes with 30 packs. The policy was spotted and shared by X user Ryo Saeba.
Pour lutter contre les scalpers, le Bic Camera Ikebukuro a mis en place un quiz Pokémon obligatoire.
15 questions basiques sur l’univers Pokémon à réussir pour pouvoir acheter des cartes.

The first condition is the quiz itself. According to Saeba, it consists of 15 questions about the Pokémon universe, and only customers who answer correctly are allowed to complete the purchase. The store also warns that anyone caught photographing the quiz questions will be turned away. On top of that, buyers must have either a Bic Camera rewards card or the Bic Camera app. Finally, they have to agree to have the cashier remove the shrink wrap and cut along the box’s perforations before they leave the store.
That last step is key. Once the outer packaging is opened at the register, the box can no longer be sold as new and sealed on the secondary market.

Scalping has been a persistent issue for the Pokémon Trading Card Game. Scalpers buy products at standard retail prices and resell them at much higher prices, making it harder for regular fans and players to get their hands on new releases. The problem has grown more visible in recent years as stories of cards being flipped for large amounts have become more common.
Bic Camera is not the only retailer taking this approach. A number of stores in Japan, including the official Pokémon Center locations, have already been opening the outer packaging of booster boxes at the point of sale for the same reason. When the plastic film is removed by a trusted retailer in front of the customer, it removes the resale value of the sealed box since future buyers on the secondary market cannot be sure the contents have not been touched.
