PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures have announced that their film adaptation of Helldivers will arrive in theaters on November 2027, starring Jason Momoa and directed by Justin Lin.
The adaptation is based on Arrowhead Game Studios’ popular video game franchise. The original Helldivers launched in 2015, and its sequel, Helldivers 2, became a major success after releasing in 2024. The game sold over 12 million copies across PlayStation 5 and PC within its first four months. Helldivers 2 recently expanded to Xbox consoles and continues to attract players.

Jason Momoa who stars as the lead role in the Helldivers movie is known for playing Aquaman in two DC films, Khal Drogo in HBO’s Game of Thrones, and recently starred in A Minecraft Movie, which grossed nearly $1 billion. He also worked with director Lin previously on Fast X.
The game’s story follows an elite group of soldiers called Helldivers who fight against alien threats to protect Super Earth, a fictional planet. The film adaptation will bring this sci-fi action premise to the big screen. Producing the film are Hutch Parker, PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash, and director Justin Lin through his company Perfect Storm Entertainment.
This isn’t the first time Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions have teamed up for video game adaptations. Their previous collaborations include the Uncharted film starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg, which earned $407 million worldwide and ranks among the top 10 highest-grossing video game movies ever made. They also produced the Peacock series Twisted Metal and HBO’s award-winning The Last of Us.
