Nacon and Rogue Factor have officially announced that Hell is Us, their upcoming action-adventure title, will be getting a console demo on August 12, 2025. The playable demo will be available for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and it will also return to PC via Steam with enhanced performance.

This follows a limited PC demo in June, which offered a first glimpse at the game’s unique approach to exploration and combat. Fans now have another chance to try it—and this time, on more platforms.
A Demo That Challenges You—No Handholding

What sets Hell is Us apart is its refusal to follow modern design norms. There are no waypoints, no maps, and no objective markers. The game encourages players to navigate the world using instinct and observation, a design philosophy the developers call “player-plattering.”
You’ll take on the role of Rémi, a Peacekeeper searching for his missing parents in the war-torn and supernatural land of Hadea. Along the way, you’ll fight Hollow Walkers, deadly creatures spawned by a disaster known as The Calamity.
Returning Demo Features—and New Upgrades

According to Rogue Factor, the August demo will be the same content as the previous PC-exclusive version, but with notable upgrades:
- 60 FPS at 4K resolution
- Improved performance and stability
- Optimized console experience
While it’s still unclear whether the console demo will be time-limited, it gives players a chance to experience the game before its official launch on September 4, 2025.
Not Just Another Soulslike

While Hell is Us borrows elements from Soulslike games, like parrying, stamina bars, and third-person combat, it also distances itself from the genre in key ways. There are no respawning enemies, no bonfire checkpoints, and combat is faster-paced. The emphasis is on puzzles, spatial awareness, and environmental storytelling.

The game features hand-crafted dungeons, each with unique layouts and challenges. These dungeons reward players not with exposition, but with immersive world-building and thoughtful design.
Free Demos Still Matter

In today’s age of pre-orders and hype cycles, it’s refreshing to see a studio offering a free demo before launch. These previews help players make informed decisions and generate early feedback for developers.
Past demos like Final Fantasy XVI were praised for providing a true taste of gameplay, and Hell is Us is following that successful model.
If you’re tired of games holding your hand and pointing out every detail, Hell is Us might be exactly what you’re looking for. Its player-driven discovery and hands-off design are rare in today’s gaming landscape, and the August 12 demo is your chance to try it for yourself.
Hell is Us demo will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam on August 12.
