With Tokyo Ghoul Break The Chains opening its servers globally, here we have a guide to highlight some the must have units to get in the game.

Characters in Tokyo Ghoul Break The Chains follow a rock-paper-scissors format where a stronger attribute will boost the damage output by 20% and the weaker attribute will deal 20% damage.

Strength beats Skill, Skill beats Speed, and Speed beats Strength.

With a huge roster of characters in the game, not all characters are equal; thus we’ve prepared a list of characters that players should aim for.

Ken Kaneki (Awaken)

As the main protagonist of Tokyo Ghoul, it’s without saying that he’s a character in Tokyo Ghoul Break The Chains that players should keep an eye for, especially his Awaken version.

On top of being an overall solid character, Kaneki has access to some strong passives. Vampirism Boost allows Kaneki to stay in the Blood Rage state when his HP is above 70%. Blood Rage increases the damage dealt by Kaneki by 0.5% for each 1% remaining HP he has. This synergises well with his innate high HP stat. Not only that, Vampirism Boost also triples Vampirism when damage is dealt, which makes Kaneki a threat in the battlefield.

Having access to his Speed Crit Boost passive is also a major boon as it increases all of the allied Speed character’s Crit DMG by 15% which is nothing to scoff at. But the downside to this is that this passive will only work with other Speed units, which could limit team building.

As of time of writing, this is the perfect time to pull for Kaneki as he’s one of the featured SSR in the current Ltd Recruitment banner.

Kisho Arima (Lightning God)

Another character on the Ltd Recruitment banner is Kisho Arima. Arima’s normal attacks have the Amplification effect which increases Arima’s attack by 15% for each buff he has, which is an easy condition to trigger even without help of his allies as Arima already has a way to gain buff through his passive in the form of Attack Boost.

Attack Boost triggers everytime Arima uses an active skill, or every 2 times he triggers Bonus Attack, which lets Arima gain a stack of Attack Boost. Attack Boost as the name implies, increases Arima’s already high ATK related stat by 3% for 3 turns, being stackable up to 6 times, which totals up to a whopping 18%.

Arima double downs as being a hard hitting character thanks to his Unblockable passive, which ignores 30% of the enemy’s Block Chance when dealing damage.

Toka Kirishima (Rabbit)

Toka Kirishima is a solid hybrid of a damage dealer plus debuffer in one package. On top of having high DPS output, she can also apply the Vulnerable effect to enemies, which will increase the damage by 10%, allowing Kirishima and her allies to dish out even more damage for essentially free.

This pairs well with Kirishima’s DMG Amplification passive, where in battle, it increases the DMG taken by 2 random enemies by 10% for 2 turns, which is pretty much applies a free Vulnerable effect in Boss fights just by entering the battle.

Hinami Fueguchi

Hinami is by far the best healer and support unit in the game as she has access to both healing and a dispel. HInami’s Crowd Heal passive is a strong form of AoE healing as it heals all allied characters to restore HP equal to 100% of Hinami’s ATK stat, on top of increasing their Max HP by 5%. Another form of healing that Hinami has is through her Power Burst Enhancement where gaining Power Burst heals all allied characters for 5% of their lost HP, which can be a life saver if your allies are low on HP.

Her Dispel passive can also prove to be a useful tool to have as it removes the debuffs of a random allied character at the start of Hinami’s turn. However, it’s a bit on the RNG side so it’s not as reliable when dealing with enemies that can apply multiple debuffs consistently.

Shu Tsukiyama

Tsukiyama can be considered the best defensive tank unit thanks to his skills. Tsukiyama has access to Provoke, which draws all of the enemy attacks to Tsukiyama on top of reducing damage taken by 20%, taking the heat off your less defensive allies.

Tsukiyama also has access to various of methods to apply shields from his Mass Barrier skill where each Stance skill cast by an allied character shields the whole team for 200% of the caster’s ATK for 1 turn, as well as the Power Burst Enhancement where gaining Power Burst shields Tsukiyama for 10% of his Max HP for 1 turn.

He also gets to remove buffs from enemies thanks to his Survival Boost skill as dealing damage to a target removes up to 3 buffs, which also grants Tsukiyama a shield of 5% of his Max HP for 1 turn for every buff removed. While this is rather situational, it can certainly come in handy when the conditions align.
