Your armor in Ghost of Yōtei plays a crucial role in defining your playstyle. Each set comes with unique abilities and lore that can turn you into a stealthy assassin, a resilient warrior, or something in between. Here’s everything you need to know about every armor in the game.
Onryō Armor
Lore: The infamous armor of the vengeful ghost hunting the Yōtei Six.
Effects:
- Killing an enemy with a Spirit Attack or thrown melee weapon has a moderate chance of terrifying nearby enemies
- The wolf has a major chance to appear when enemies are terrified
- Terrified enemies take massively increased damage
How to Get: This is your starting armor—you’ll have it from the beginning of the game.

Armor of the Undying
Lore: A curse passed on, an armor that stays death. Choose the right weapon, recover what is lost.
Effects:
- If weapon aligned, staggering enemies restores a major amount of health
- If weapon aligned, the window to perform Perfect Parry and Perfect Dodge increases by a moderate amount
- If weapon aligned, Focus Attacks have a moderate chance to increase stagger damage
How to Get: Find Ugetsu the Storyteller near a bear attack site at the Storyteller Rest, close to Masked Man Quarry in the Ishikari Plain region. Defeat the Undying Samurai in a duel to earn this armor.

Ginji’s Guard Armor
Lore: A prototype crafted by Ginji, the armorer, to protect its wearer from incoming gunfire.
Effects:
- Increases Tanegashima reload speed by a moderate amount
- Blocking deflects incoming bullets and grants a minor amount of Spirit
- Incoming projectiles inflict massively less damage
How to Get: Once you reach Oshima Coast (the final region), visit Matsumae Castle. Head to the Matsumae Residences and speak with Ginji, the blacksmith. Complete his quest to reclaim stolen armor.

Dragonfly Armor
Lore: Daijiro’s armor, before forgoing the name Lord Furuya. A note reads: “May your arrows fly with the speed of a dragonfly.”
Effects:
- Fully drawing your bow creates a brief timed glint. Firing during the glint empowers your shot, majorly increasing damage and range
- Firing an empowered arrow grants a moderate amount of Concentration
- Increases arrow reload speed by a major amount
How to Get: Travel to Cairn Forks in the Tokachi Range. Rescue an NPC named Daijiro, then meet him at the Inn. Complete his series of quests to earn the armor.

Bounty Master Armor
Lore: A hunter seeks challenge. A killer seeks precision. A bounty is won.
Effects:
- Perfect Parry and Perfect Dodge windows increase by a major amount, but regular parries are disabled
- A Perfect Parry enables 3 additional counterattacks
- All Spirit gains increase by a massive amount
How to Get: Complete multiple bounties to unlock a special quest against a “Special Target.” Completing this quest rewards you with the armor.

Robes for Sitturaynu
Lore: Made by huci to help a lost hunter find their way.
Effects:
- Fireflies and controller vibrations guide you to Altars of Reflection within 55m
- Golden Birds can lead to Shamisen Songs and Sumi-e Painting locations
- Flowers have a minor chance to be automatically collected when riding through white flower trails or stealthing through tall grass
- Upgrade available (Robes for Sitturaynu II)
How to Get: Enter the Teshio Ridge region and meet an NPC named Huci. Progress through several quests to receive this armor as a gift.

Nine Tail Armor
Lore: Worn by the shinobi haunting Teshio Ridge. Designed for stealth and cunning.
Effects:
- Quickfire weapon damage and duration of status effects on enemies increase by a moderate amount
- Assassinating enemies has a minor chance of granting 2 Quickfire ammo
- Enemy detection speed and assassination noises reduce by a moderate amount
How to Get: This armor is part of the main story. While pursuing The Kitsune (one of the Yōtei Six), you’ll find a house displaying the armor. Simply take it and equip it.

Taro’s Armor
Lore: An armor for the resilient survivor. Assembled by Taro from the fallen of Ezo.
Effects:
- All Spirit gains increase by a moderate amount when you have a cooking bonus
- Maximum health increases by a moderate amount
- Fire and cold damage reduce by a major amount
How to Get: Speak with an NPC named Taro to obtain this armor.

Spider Lily Armor
Lore: The armor of a general, lost to grief. All enemies fall to its bloodthirsty intent.
Effects:
- Enemies have a moderate chance to drop throwable weapons
- Stagger damage from melee weapons increases by a moderate amount
- Staggering an enemy has a moderate chance of dealing moderate stagger damage to nearby enemies
How to Get: Travel south of Shizunai Woods in the Tokachi Range to find the Mysterious Gate. An NPC will warn you with a legendary tale, but enter anyway. Solve the puzzle and defeat the enemies inside to claim the armor.

Crimson Kimono
Lore: A kimono stained red with blood. Imbued with a mother’s love to shroud its wearer from danger.
Effects:
- Chain Assassinations can be performed with Kunai (max 2 Kunai thrown)
- Enemy detection reduces by a massive amount
- Kusarigama Assassinations can be unleashed from a major amount further away
How to Get: Upon arriving in Teshio Ridge and reaching the local Inn, you’ll find a quest marked on the map at Sakuru Woods. Complete the quest to claim the armor.

Mercenary Attire
Lore: A versatile outfit that hides both dust and blood.
Effects:
- Thrown melee weapons deal increased damage by a moderate amount and grant a moderate amount of Spirit
- Assassinating an enemy has a guaranteed chance of dropping Sake
- Drinking Sake grants a major amount of additional Spirit
How to Get: This armor is obtained during the final mission against The Oni, one of the Yōtei Six. It’s part of the main storyline.

Fundoshi
Lore: The best revenge is cold and silent.
Effects:
- At the cost of warmth, running and sprinting no longer create noise
- No upgrade path
How to Get: Automatically obtained once you’ve discovered 18 Hot Springs across the map.

Which Armor Should You Use?
Your choice depends on your playstyle:
- Stealth players: Nine Tail Armor and Crimson Kimono offer excellent detection reduction and assassination bonuses
- Ranged combat: Dragonfly Armor enhances bow damage and reload speed
