GSC the largest cinema chain in Malaysia, has announced that COLORFUL STAGE! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing will premiere in Malaysian theaters on April 17, 2025. The film marks the first big-screen appearance for the virtual pop star Hatsune Miku.

The Japanese animated science fiction musical drama, which originally debuted in Japan on January 17, 2025, is based on the popular smartphone rhythm game “Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage!” The game, developed by Colorful Palette and published by Sega, has attracted over 39 million downloads worldwide.
Produced by the renowned animation studio P.A. Works and distributed by Shochiku, the film features direction by Hiroyuki Hata and a screenplay by Yoko Yonaiyama. Fans of the Hatsune Miku franchise can look forward to experiencing this musical adventure when it arrives in GSC Malaysia theaters next month.

The story centers on Ichika, a high school musician who can enter a mysterious realm called “SEKAI” where she and her friends express their emotions through music alongside Hatsune Miku. Following a live performance, Ichika encounters a unique version of Miku who, despite her efforts, struggles to connect with listeners. The film follows this Miku’s emotional journey to rediscover her voice with help from her companions.
