Nihon Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo recently spoke with Automaton about the upcoming Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter Remake. He shared why the remake exists, what fans can expect, and where the series may go in the future.
Why Start With Trails in the Sky FC?
Kondo explained two main reasons for returning to the first Trails game. With the 20th anniversary approaching, fans kept asking Falcom for a modern way to play Sky FC. At the same time, the Trails series had grown more complex after twenty years of sequels, which made it harder for newcomers to jump in.

Therefore, by remaking the original title, Falcom hopes to create a true entry point. The remake also includes updated tutorials and clearer world explanations, ensuring accessibility while keeping the original’s charm. Furthermore, Kondo emphasized that this version will finally provide international players with the easiest starting point for the series.
Expanded Story and Playtime
The remake features five chapters, and each one introduces a new quest that highlights side characters. The prologue, however, remains close to the original. As a result, the new content gives later chapters more depth.

In addition, a full playthrough now takes over 70 hours, even for Falcom staff. New elements like full voice acting, 3D exploration, and re-arranged music tracks also add to the extended runtime. Fan favorites such as Silver Will have been refreshed with new energy, even though no entirely new songs were added.
Looking Toward Future Remakes
Kondo confirmed that a remake of Trails in the Sky SC will likely follow, under the name Trails in the Sky the 2nd. He also promised fans that Falcom will avoid long delays between entries.

Meanwhile, other remakes, including Zero and Azure, may happen if fan demand is strong enough. Kondo stressed that these projects aim to expand the audience while also rewarding loyal players.
About Trails in the Sky
First released in 2004, The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky is set in the Liberl Kingdom on the continent of Zemuria. It follows Estelle Bright and her adopted brother Joshua as they train to become Bracers, protectors of the people. However, their quest soon draws them into a conspiracy that threatens the kingdom itself.

The remake introduces voice acting, upgraded visuals, and modernized combat inspired by the Calvard arc’s hybrid action-turn system. In addition, the gameplay improvements make battles more dynamic without losing the original’s tactical depth.
Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter Remake launches worldwide on September 19, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam. Moreover, the Switch 2 and a free demo is now available across all platforms. Players can try the game early and carry their save data into the full release.
