Wizards of the Coast has released new gameplay footage for Exodus, its upcoming sci-fi RPG developed by Archetype Entertainment. The clips offer the first real look at how the game plays, covering combat, movement, and environment exploration.
Exodus is built around a story that unfolds across thousands of years of future history, involving both human and alien factions with competing goals. The developer says players will face moral decisions and deal with “conflicting agendas that echo across generations.” With the release window approaching, Archetype has announced a plan to roll out short gameplay clips regularly, focusing on different parts of the experience such as combat, traversal, interactions, and environments before a larger gameplay showcase planned.
Archetype Entertainment was founded by former BioWare developers, including Drew Karpyshyn, the writer behind the Mass Effect series. The game also features Hollywood actor Matthew McConaughey and has made appearances at multiple The Game Awards shows. Exodus is currently set for release in early 2027.
The first clip puts players in a live combat encounter on the outskirts of a location called Lyonesse. The studio described it as a fight where positioning plays a key role, and leaning on your companions can be the difference between coming out alive or not.

The second clip shifts the pace, showing a section set on a space tower in Lyonesse between combat moments. It highlights a movement tool called the railclaw, which Archetype describes as a core part of a Traveler’s toolkit. The railclaw lets players cross difficult terrain and reach higher ground, and the studio notes that once players get used to it, what looks like an obstacle becomes a natural part of how they get around.
The third clip moves to a completely different setting with an ancient shrine on a location called Khonsu. The area features large-scale architecture described as unmistakably “Celestial” in design, and the clip appears to focus on atmosphere and exploration rather than action.

The game is still months away from its summer showcase, but these clips mark the beginning of Archetype’s push to get more of Exodus in front of players ahead of its 2027 launch.
