FromSoftware is finally answering fan demands—Elden Ring: Nightreign is getting a long-awaited two-player co-op mode, launching this week on July 30, 2025, with the release of Patch 1.02.
Previously, players could only explore the world of Limveld solo or in trios. This left many duos out in the cold, unable to experience the game without a third teammate or the help of random matchmaking. That’s all about to change with the addition of Duo Expeditions, a brand-new mode that allows you to team up with just one other friend for cooperative battles and boss hunts.
Duo Expeditions: Built for You and One Friend

Two-player support has been one of the most requested features since Elden Ring Nightreign launched in May. Game director Junya Ishizaki previously acknowledged the oversight in a May interview, stating that the team “overlooked and neglected” the demand for a two-player option. Now, they’re making good on that promise.
Patch 1.02 introduces Duo Expeditions, giving players a tighter, more focused co-op experience. This new mode allows friends to explore the haunting landscape of Limveld together without needing a full trio. A trailer showcasing this mode in action has also been released, letting fans see the dynamic duo combat for themselves.
UI Improvements and Relic Filtering

In addition to the co-op update, Patch 1.02 brings quality-of-life improvements to the game’s UI. This includes more options for filtering Relics, helping players better manage their growing inventories. While exact details on the UI changes are still under wraps, FromSoftware promises a smoother, more accessible experience for all players.
This update comes just two months after the studio adjusted Nightreign’s single-player difficulty, adding automatic revival mechanics and increased rune rewards to ease the brutal journey for solo players.
Strong Sales Despite Mixed Reception

Though Elden Ring Nightreign received mixed reviews at launch, it has performed impressively on the charts. The game hit a peak of 313,593 concurrent players on Steam during its launch window—FromSoftware’s second-highest Steam peak behind the original Elden Ring.
Publisher Bandai Namco confirmed the game sold 2 million copies on day one, and it has since exceeded 5 million units globally. However, not everyone was sold on the spin-off’s design. VGC’s review called it “a clumsy multiplayer sideshow” with rough combat and limited variety—criticisms that FromSoftware seems to be addressing with its recent patches.

Elden Ring Nightreign two-player mode will be available on July 30 for PC (via Steam), PlayStation, and Xbox.
