Koei Tecmo is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Dynasty Warriors franchise, and fans are in for a treat. A brand-new anniversary trailer teases major DLC for the recently released Dynasty Warriors: Origins and reveals that a mysterious remastered title is also in development.
It’s a big moment for long-time fans of the iconic Musou-style series.
A New Chapter for Dynasty Warriors: Origins?

The anniversary video hints that Dynasty Warriors: Origins may be getting a significant post-launch expansion. The term “major DLC” suggests more than just cosmetic content, potentially continuing protagonist Ziluan’s journey beyond the events of the Battle of Chi Bi. While nothing is confirmed, fans are hopeful this means the story will extend deeper into the Romance of the Three Kingdoms narrative.
Koei Tecmo hasn’t revealed exact details or a timeline, but the confirmation of substantial DLC signals strong support for the game beyond launch.
A New Remaster in the Works

The video also teased a remastered Dynasty Warriors game, though Koei Tecmo didn’t confirm which title is being updated. Early speculation pointed to the original Dynasty Warriors (a one-on-one fighting game), but Japanese-language clues indicate it’s more likely a remaster of a later entry from the Shin Sangokumusou series, known internationally from Dynasty Warriors 2 onward.
No release window or additional information has been provided yet, but the announcement has stirred fan theories across the internet.
A Message from the Developers
In a message on Koei Tecmo of America’s official website, series creators Tomohiko Sho and Akihiro Suzuki expressed gratitude for the franchise’s longevity.
“The fact that the ‘Dynasty Warriors’ series has continued for 25 years is thanks to everyone involved in the series and all the fans who have supported us. I sincerely thank you from the bottom of my heart,” said Sho. “I want to keep celebrating together with everyone for the next big milestones—30th, 35th, and beyond.”
What Is Dynasty Warriors: Origins?

Released in January 2025, Dynasty Warriors: Origins is the tenth mainline entry in the franchise. Developed by Omega Force, the game marks a shift in focus, offering a smaller cast in exchange for a deeper narrative and refined gameplay. The story follows Ziluan, a new protagonist navigating the early years of the Three Kingdoms era.
Origins launched on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and received positive reviews for its large-scale battles, narrative focus, and return to the franchise’s core roots. It surpassed 1 million units sold within its first month, signaling a successful comeback for the beloved series.
A Look Back at the Dynasty Warriors Legacy

The franchise began in 1997 as a one-on-one fighting game but found its identity with Dynasty Warriors 2, which introduced the now-famous Musou-style gameplay. Set during China’s Three Kingdoms period, the series combines real historical figures with high-octane, over-the-top action. Known for its massive rosters and chaotic battles, it has remained a staple in the hack-and-slash genre.
Despite mixed critical reception over the years, Dynasty Warriors has sold over 21 million copies globally as of 2020, becoming one of Koei Tecmo’s most successful and longest-running franchises. It has spawned numerous spin-offs and crossovers, including Hyrule Warriors and Fire Emblem Warriors.
While Koei Tecmo has yet to reveal full details on the upcoming DLC or remaster, fans can expect more announcements soon on their official website.
Dynasty Warrior Games are currently on sale on Steam as part of the 25th Anniversary celebration, so check them out now.
