Japanese video game company Cygames has announced a sponsorship deal with Churchill Downs Racetrack, the home of the Kentucky Derby. As part of the partnership, a race called the “Pleasant Colony Presented by Cygames” will be held on Kentucky Derby Day.
As part of the deal, Cygames branding will be visible throughout the Pleasant Colony race on Derby Day. The company’s logo will appear on the starting gate, finish line signage, winner’s circle displays, and the saddle towels worn by the horses competing in the race. The 152nd Kentucky Derby carries a total prize pool of $5 million. Further details about race conditions and the track will be shared closer to the event date.

For those unfamiliar with Cygames outside of this announcement, the Tokyo-based company is the developer and publisher behind Umamusume: Pretty Derby, a mobile game that draws heavily from the world of horse racing. In the game, players raise and train characters inspired by real-life racehorses from horse racing history.
The Kentucky Derby is one of the oldest and most well-known sporting events in the United States. It has been held since 1875 and serves as the first of three races that make up the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing. The event takes place every year at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky, and is widely considered the most-watched and most-attended horse racing event in North America. It carries the popular nickname “The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports.”
