A new Star Wars game called Star Wars: Fate of the Republic was revealed during The Game Awards 2025, bringing veteran director Casey Hudson back to the galaxy far, far away.
Hudson, who directed the original Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and the Mass Effect trilogy, is leading development on the new title at Arcanaut Studios, a studio he co-founded this year. The game is being made in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games and is described as a spiritual successor to Knights of the Old Republic.
Star Wars: Fate of the Republic is a single-player, narrative-driven action RPG set at the end of the Old Republic era. Players will take on the role of a Force user in a galaxy on the edge of rebirth. The game will feature a story where player choices determine whether their character moves toward the light side or the dark side of the Force.
Hudson revealed his excitement about returning to Star Wars after more than 20 years. “When we developed the original KOTOR, we wanted to create a definitive Star Wars experience,” he said. “Now, 25 years after we started work on that game, our aspirations are equally ambitious.” He described the new game as a chance to create a modern vision of that experience using current technology and game design.

The development team at Arcanaut Studios includes veteran game developers and storytellers working to create what they call an “epic interactive adventure.” No release date or platform information has been announced yet for Star Wars: Fate of the Republic.
