Bungie & NetEase Games Announce Destiny: Rising Coming to Mobile

NetEase Games have announced that Bungie’s popular sci-fi FPS shooter franchise, Destiny is now headed for the mobile market, both for Android and iOS users under the name Destiny: Rising. Destiny: Rising will be set in an alternate timeline within the Destiny universe where players will get to explore the post-Dark Age era of the universe and lore before the Tower and Guardians existed.

NetEase Games has developed Destiny: Rising, after announcing a partnership with Bungie that was established back in 2018. The partnership had allowed NetEase to gain the license for the Destiny IP from Bungie and they have been granted the creative freedom to develop its own storyline and vision for Destiny: Rising. “We want to capture and depict a specific time where the reins are in the hands of the players to experience, to explore, to define,” says Stone Shi, senior narrative designer, at NetEase.

“With Destiny: Rising, NetEase Games is honored to partner with Bungie to deliver a Destiny-caliber experience to mobile devices.” stated Ethan Wang, Senior Vice President, NetEase, Inc. “Destiny is an incredible franchise with a passionate and dedicated global fanbase. As huge fans ourselves, we are humbled and thrilled for the opportunity to bring gamers an action-packed RPG shooter set within the Destiny Universe.”

NetEase assures that Rising will feature “familiar faces from Destiny” alongside “a host of new, intriguing characters.” The game however, will depart from using your own character that Destiny is known for and instead players will take on control of named characters. Rising will also feature a single player mode, co-op and competitive multiplayer including “game modes familiar to Destiny players” together with fresh and new modes to add to the mobile experience. It is worth noting that the game is looking to offer Destiny players a first-person and third-person experience through the phone’s touchscreen or with a controller. 

Good news for fans who are interested in Destiny: Rising, NetEase will hold a closed alpha test for the game on November 1st. Simply pre-register the game over at their official website and follow the necessary steps. Since its a closed playtest, limited players will be selected so try your luck.

But for those of you who aren’t able to participate in the closed playtest, you can check out Bungie’s Destiny 2 that’s currently available as a free-to-play game on PS4, PS5, Windows PC via Steam, Xbox One and the Xbox Series X|S if you haven’t started your journey as a Guardian yourself.
