Gearbox Entertainment has officially announced that Borderlands 4 will have a release date set on September 23, 2025. The announcement came during today’s State of Play presentation, where Gearbox president Randy Pitchford revealed the highly anticipated next entry in the looter-shooter franchise.
Alongside the release date announcement, Gearbox shared a new trailer showcasing fresh gameplay elements, with the notable addition of a grappling hook system. The trailer also highlighted enhanced mobility features including double jumping, gliding, and dodging mechanics, expanding the series’ traditional movement options.

The game will take place on a new planet called Kairos, promising an expanded arsenal of weapons and what Gearbox’s Chief Creative Officer Randy Varnell describes as their “most ambitious game to date.” The traditional Borderlands formula of action skills and distinctive Vault Hunter abilities returns, now complemented by the new movement system.
PlayStation fans can look forward to a dedicated Borderlands 4 State of Play showcase this spring, which will offer an in-depth look at gameplay features and the game’s expanded weapon system. Gearbox has promised to reveal “tons of more guns” during this special presentation.

Players interested in securing their copy can now wishlist Borderlands 4 ahead of its September release date. The game maintains the series’ signature focus on “looting and shooting Mayhem,” while introducing new traversal mechanics to refresh the familiar formula. Specific platform availability and pricing details have not yet been announced.
