Amazon’s God of War Series Set to Start Filming March 2026

Amazon’s highly anticipated God of War TV series now has an official filming start date. According to sources, the show will begin filming in March 2026 in Vancouver. The casting process is already underway. Ronald D. Moore will be running the show as the main showrunner. Moore is known for his work on popular series like For All Mankind, Electric Dreams, and Outlander.

He’s bringing together a strong team of writers who have worked on some big shows:

• Matthew Graham (Electric Dreams and Spanish Princess)
• Stephanie Shannon (For All Mankind and Outlander)
• Narendra K. Shankar (The Expanse and For All Mankind)
• Joe Menosky (For All Mankind and Star Trek: Discovery)
• Marc D. Bernardin (The Continental and Star Trek: Picard)
• Tania Lotia (The Witcher and The Mighty Nein)

Many of these writers have worked with Moore before, which should help create a smooth working relationship.

At San Diego Comic-Con, Moore gave fans an update on how things are going.

“We’re in the scripts phase. We’re still working on scripts. It’s going very well. We’ve got a good team. It’s been a fascinating thing to sink my teeth into. I’ve never done an adaptation of a video game, and the deeper I got into it, the more impressed I was with the breadth and the depth of the mythology that’s involved in this video game.”

The series will be based on the 2018 God of War game, not the earlier titles in the series. This version follows an older Kratos, who used to be the Olympian God of War. After getting his revenge against Zeus, Kratos tried to live a quiet life with his wife and son.

The story picks up after his wife dies. To honor her last wish, Kratos and his son Atreus go on a dangerous journey to scatter her ashes from the highest mountain in the Nine Realms. During their trip, they meet many characters from Norse mythology, including the god Baldur. The God of War series is being made by several big companies working together: Amazon MGM Studios, Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions, and Santa Monica Studio.
