Sega Clarifies Partnership with Microsoft, Says It Wont Lead to Exclusives

Earlier this month Sega announced a partnership with Microsoft to make games for the Azure Cloud Platforms. Now they have further clarified what the partnership will involve and that it won’t result in Xbox exclusive games.

In a report to VideoGameChronicles, they further clarified what this alliance would involve:

“We already have a very close business relationship with Microsoft. We outsourced the development of their large-scale titles and as a third party, we are supplying a variety of titles [Halo Wars 22 and Age of Empires 4]”

“When we announced the concept of Super Game, Microsoft was sympathetic to that vision and that leads to the announcement this time.

“About this, we are not talking about releasing games to Microsoft exclusively, but rather to develop Super Game that will be delivered to the world together, with their technical support.”

This ‘Super Game’ initiative is a new project from Sega which will involve the Microsoft partnership. It is a project that Sega is committed to for the mid to long term. It will be a ‘major global title’ and will focus on the ideas of ‘online’, ‘community, ‘global’ and ‘IP Utilization’. Sega states that they are willing to invest up to 1 billion yen in the project.

To this end, Sega’s parent company SegaSammy has stated that will consider making further acquisitions in order to complement its pre-existing development teams.
