While Genshin Impact remains one of the top gacha games on the market, it seems that some devoted players have been leaving the game in favor of another gatcha game.
One about collecting Gingerbread waifus, Cookie Run Kingdom.
Just looking on Twitter and this bread rolling bakery gacha seems to have more than a few Genshin fans hopping over.

Cookie Run Kingdom is a base-building gacha game where one rolls for an assortment of Gingerbread characters that they can then do battle with.
The reason so many Genshin Impact fans are turning to Cookie Run is twofold. Many fans feel that Genshin Impacts’ anniversary events have been subpar for such a successful game with rather lackluster rewards to celebrate such a milestone event. This combined with the less than stellar reception to the latest character Kokomi has left some fans feeling disillusioned with the game.
And when the world of Tervyat is seeming cold, why not head to the warm oven of Cookie Run which has been praised for its extremely generous rolls including offering further in-game currency for even the tiniest of events.
We spoke to one fan in particular who for privacy reasons we will simply refer to as “N” who said this to say:
Because gacha rates are better in CRK and they have lots of things to do there. And they’re more generous when it comes to rewards and upgrades, both paid and for freeIt doesn’t punish you for being away for too long in the game, it has a system to get cookies you want if you save up so you don’t miss out.
And then on top of all of that, even when we engage with the game [Genshin Impact] and generate a lot of fan content, Mihoyo doesn’t even have any proper PR to handle anniversary news lol. So a bunch of the player base right now (including CN) thinks they’re being disrespected.
A fan of Cookie Run Kingdom named “J” who hadn’t played Genshin Impact before stated that they likewise enjoyed the game because:
It looked fun and cute and yummy and I wanna eat all the things in the game.The game is lenient on in-game currencies and they give you a lot of gems so you’re not really in the red when you roll. There’s also a big roster of characters to pull. Gameplay-wise it’s very automatic so you don’t have to put too much attention to it. It think that’s about it haha.
Even when it comes to characters, players have found that many of the Japanese and English voice actors that voice characters within Genshin, also voice characters for Cookie Run so even with a new cast of characters, you’ll still be hearing familiar voices, even if they are coming out of Gingerbread people. Genshin still has the advantage of anime waifus but Cookie Run’s fandom seems to be working on that too.

Is Cookie Run likely to topple Genshin Impacts’s success, probably not? Mihoyo is rolling in money and likely will continue to do so even if a few of their millions of users leave to get some confectionaries. However, the fact that such a vocal group has thrown their support to a game as seemingly silly sounding as Cookie Run Kingdom does show that there is some significant dissatisfaction in the Genshin player base that should probably be addressed.
