The recent Nintendo Direct has revealed a new trailer more Splatoon 3 with more details on the upcoming Splatfest.

Story-wise we will see the “return of the mammalian”. Splatoon is yet another Nintendo property that secretly takes place on a post-apocalyptic Earth where also sea life has survived but nows the mammals are coming back. In this case, mammals being fuzzy hairball-looking fellas. It sounds like they’ll be another worthy advisory for the Inklings to overcome.

The game now takes place in what they call the Splatlands, a Mad Max-inspired wasteland filled in the desert. That being said, the battles will still take place in the traditional turf wars. There will be greater character customization and the addition of a helper in a battle called a “little buddy”. We also saw some hints at new weapons and stages which look more complex and chaotic than before.

Despite being a fairly new series, Splatoon has quickly become one of Nintendo’s heavy hitter franchises to the point that Splatoon 2 has become one of the best-selling games on the Switch. Splatoon 3 will have a lot to live up to and from what we’ve seen, it hopefully will.

Splatoon 3 will be coming to Nintendo Switch in 2022. Its predecessor Splatoon 2 is currently available for Nintendo Switch.
