Gundam Evolution, the upcoming 6v6 first person shooter, has released more information about the game, basically confirming its current roster of playable mobile suits.

Even if it ends up being the final launch roster for the game, it’s easy to assume that more content drops are incoming, possibly with more mobile suits. And unlike titles like Battle Operation 2 which stuck to one of Gundam’s many timelines, Evolution has already opened the door to crossovers with the addition of the Barbatos Gundam and Turn A Gundam, meaning the sky’s the limit on what else could make the cut.

In that spirit, we present our own picks on some great Mobile Suit options for Gundam Evolution –

Wing Gundam (Gundam Wing)

Existing as the epitome of 90s Gundam, the Wing Gundam has it all- a cool color scheme, a transformation gimmick as well as one of the most laughably overpowered guns in Gundam history with its Buster Cannon.

There’s a lot of room to play around with the playstyle of the Wing, too- for one, it could play like a much faster Assimar, transforming to move around the battlefield with more speed, but maybe less handling. On the other hand you could also limit the gundam’s mobility while it has its Buster Rifle out- making for a great risk-reward character as you have to sacrifice your best asset if you want to actually clear the screen of enemies.

But more important than that, think of the monetization options- Bandai Namco Entertainment already confirmed skins would be added to the game, and the different variants of the Wing Gundam, from the Wing Zero to the EW redesign, would make great premium skins and allow fans to have their Wing Gundam of choice.

Ez8/ Gouf Custom (The 08th MS Team)

While two wholly separate suits, the Ez8 and Gouf Custom just can’t be separated. These two ground-type sluggers come from the 08th MS Team, the OVA that still holds up as a contender for one of the best animated Gundam series out there.

For those unaware, 08th MS Team did away with Space, focusing instead primarily on the ground-level battles, with equally ground-specialized mobile suits. In every crossover game they’ve been in, the Ez8 and Gouf Custom have always had playstyles to accommodate this- less flying around, more of a focus on fighting on the ground and using their much chunkier weapons.

On top of that, the Gouf Custom has retained one gimmick in all of its appearances, and that’s its purging equipment- in almost every game it’s been a part of, the Gouf Custom can fire its gatling gun until it runs out of ammo, where it then drops it in favor of Vulcan Pods. While it probably won’t rank high on tier lists as a result, the imagery of it dropping the larger gun never stops being cool.

Also with Guntank being confirmed in the game’s roster, you can recreate some. Well, let’s just say choice moments from the OVA.

Tequila Gundam (G Gundam)

Look, we all know God Gundam is good. But the real OG of G Gundam is the Tequila Gundam, who embodies everything wacky about Gundam’s weird stint as a shonen battle anime.

It’s got everything that screams “look at this marvel of Character design”- a sombrero with vulcan pods sticking out of it. A beam pitchfork. A moustache. A backstory that involves the words Neo Mexico. While Bandai may have neglected the Tequila Gundam over the years, what better way to make up for it than with a slot in their soon-to-be smash-success FPS. Heck, use the popularity of it in Gundam Evolution to announce a Re 1/100 Tequila Gundam, to make up for lost time.

The only reason I could think of to not put in the Tequila Gundam is that it would have comparatively few skins in comparison. After all, it’s such a great design, how could you improve on that?

Seravee Gundam (Gundam 00)

Gundam 00 has some of the most unique design aesthetic of the Gundam series, with markedly leaner mobile suits that fly by the power of basically space magic coming out of their reactors on their back.

And then you have the Seravee Gundam, who throws that entire design aesthetic to the wind by being the chonkies mobile suit in the series. It’s a heavy, heavy artillery suit, with armaments that range from shoulder/knee-mounted beam cannons, two beam bazookas, and combining those to form, well, more beam bazookas.

Alternatively each of these cannons also sported built-in hands with Beam sabers, meaning if you ever got into melee range the Seravee was more than capable of taking you on as a 6-armed behemoth.

On top of that it has one more gimmick, wherein its backpack is actually the Seraphim Gundam. This much leaner mobile suit sports the notorious TRIAL system, which had the added advantage of being able to disable enemy mobile suits as long as they were linked to VEDA.

Obviously, there’s some issues with canon at play here- by right the Seraphim’s TRIAL system wouldn’t work on most of the roster. Considering that Bandai Namco Entertainment are willing to do crossovers at all though, I’m sure anyone whose opinions matter wouldn’t be too hard pressed about their Zaku being stopped short by the Seraphim Gundam.

Honestly, there’s way more mobile suits I could throw in this list. Heck, some people might be mad the Exia isn’t here, considering it’s many people’s premier melee-rated mobile suit.

But the point is, I hope they use this opportunity to really make some pulls from Gundam’s history- between the Blue Frame Astray, Gundam Vidar, Psycho Zaku and Hy-Gogg, I really hope that the final roster for Gundam Evolution is something fans can really look to to just celebrate how far Gundam has come.
