Nickelodeon has announced Nickelodeon All Star Brawl, a platform fighter based off of Nintendo’s iconic characters. The developers have also elaborated on the Nickelodeon All Star Brawl netcode , giving Smash fans a reason to check out the game.

While a lot of the information comes from IGN’s exclusive reveal of the game, developers Ludosity were also taking questions in their discord channel, presenting new information about the game.

The game is coming to PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. Ludosity has also said that a PC version is coming at a later date.

While we don’t know the specifics of the game’s mechanics, the Smash DNA is certainly there- unlike previous Smash clone PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale, Nickelodeon Brawl seems to be sticking to the death-by-platform rule that Smash fans know and love.

Developers Ludosity seem to be doing their homework, as it looks like they’ve confirmed in their discord that the game will feature wavedashing, a movement option beloved in high-level Smash play.

This is far from the final roster of the game, as Target has put out a redacted version of the box art that seems to show more silhouettes, including what appears to be Ren & Stimpy, as well as Catdog. There’s also two vaguely humanoid silhouettes, which some fans believe might be Korra from The Legend of Korra, which released exclusively on Nickelodeon.

Nickelodeon All Star Brawl Netcode

While not part of the initial announcement, developers Ludosity seem to have commented on the Nintendo All Star Brawl netcode. While not universal, the developers say some platforms will support rollback netcode.

Online play  has been one of the big gripes with Smash Bros, due to the fact that it has the double whammy of having traditional Delay-based Netcode and the Switch having no ethernet port, leading to situations where matches could become unplayable with how badly the game slows down. Worse yet, it’s been teased that Grand Finals could be won by a CPU, as Smash replaces disconnected players with bots rather than ending the match.
