Cover Corp has just announced the graduation of Kiryu Coco from Hololive, which is the idol term for leaving the company.

In a press release, Cover Corporation didn’t specify an exact reason, although they’ve said that the decision was Coco’s rather than an executive decision.

The announcement of Kiryu Coco ‘s graduation comes as a shock, as Coco had just recently announced a slew of collaborations in store, which was an oddity for the Vtuber given the high number of trolls in her chat.

Coco has announced her last livestream, on the first of July. Cover Corporation has said that after her final livestream, her members-only content would continue to be up for three more months.

One Of The Brightest Stars Among Vtubers

It’s no secret that Kiryu Coco is one of the most important vtubers when discussing the story of Hololive. Coco made waves with her overly crude personality, as well as being one of the first of Hololive’s Vtubers to speak fluent English.

Her debut show, AsaCoco (lit. Morning Coco) was a parody of Japanese daytime TV, where she discussed news within Hololive. Despite streaming it at 6am, the show gained a cult-like following, particularly for its famously offbeat skits featuring fictional products.

Later Vtubers such as 5th generation Yukihana Lamy and Hololive EN’s Calliope Mori also cited Coco as being big inspirations to them, having been fans of Asacoco prior to joining Hololive.

While Asacoco stopped as a program, its spirit lived on in Kiryu Coco’s Meme Review, where she invited guests on to look at memes posted to the official Hololive subreddit.

Controversy

The reason Kiryu Coco became a target for harassment was one of her streams, in which she read out her viewer analytics by country and mentioned Taiwan as a country. Pro-China cybertroopers proceeded to harass her, and her chat has been heavily restricted since the event. While never outright saying it, she also alluded to it being the reason she collaborated with other members far less.
