Pokemon Unite, the upcoming moba with a Pokemon twist has announced a beta for western audiences.

The closed beta is available only for Canadian audiences, with no current plans to expand it to other regions. This is similar to the previous beta, which was only available in China.

Unlike that beta, however, this Pokemon Unite beta can be registered for via the Google App Store.

The beta will start in March, however eligible applicants can register for it now. While the game’s full launch will be on Android, iOS and the Nintendo Switch, the Beta will be limited to Android devices.

The Pokemon Company have stressed that recording footage of this beta is strictly prohibited, so don’t expect much new information to come until they give the say-so.

Singling Canada out as a test region is an odd choice, as most places lump it in as part of continental North America due to its proximity and larger playerbase. Presumably, future beta tests will continue to single out individual tests rather than sorting them by region until closer to the game’s release date.

Pokemon Unite isn’t just League of Legends with a Pokemon skin, far from it. Similar to Heroes of the Storm, it plays around with the function of the map in the game, instead using capture points to score points for each team. Players will choose their Pokemon, starting out from their early forms and evolving them as they gain more experience.
