Sony Interactive Entertainment is issuing Maneater refunds after the game had just been announced to be free next month on the PS5.
This is due to the fact that the game was very recently on sale, and Sony was likely pre-empting any outrage about many people picking it up right before it goes free on the subscription service.
According to a thread on Reddit, the Maneater refunds are automatic for US accounts that had bought the game as early as 23rd November, the date that the game last went on sale.
Sony hasn’t issued an official statement regarding the refunds, and we don’t even know yet if Maneater would be added to the SEA Region Playstation Plus lineup, which is known to vary region-to-region.
Considering the game is available on the PS Store though, there’s a good chance it will join as one of the first PS5-exclusive PS Plus games next year.
While Sony’s refund policies have always been a bit of a mystery, the company has been earning some brownie points after they promised refunds following Cyberpunk 2077’s launch on past-gen consoles.
Since then, netizens have speculated that the platform would start having more concrete guidelines for refund policies, similar to Steam’s.
Sony has been mum on that front, though quietly giving out refunds before it escalates into a situation is certainly a good sign that the platform is looking into it. At the very least, this will set some sort of precedent for how sales, the PS Plus lineup and refunds will interact in the future.
