Koei Tecmo Shuts Down Websites Following Cyberattack

Koei Tecmo is the latest company to come under attack by hackers, and have taken several of their sites offline as a precautionary measure.

The game studio has reportedly been the victim of a data breach, although this breach was targeted to their forums. According to Cog Connected, no credit card information was compromised, although user information and e-mail addresses were.

As a result, the company has taken down their websites, specifically those for Koei Tecmo America and Koei Tecmo Europe. It’s also been reported that their databases have been disconnected from the rest of their network, hopefully preventing further breaches until they’ve resolved the issue.

Trying to access these sites will get you a message reading the following:

“Due to the possibility of an external cyberattack on this website, it is temporarily closed as we investigate the issue”.

Neither the American or European Twitter accounts for Koei Tecmo have commented on the breach.

Naturally, if you had an account with their forum, it’s a pretty good idea to start changing your passwords and using two-factor-authentication wherever possible.

It’s good to see the company responding so swiftly to the breach, complete with preventative measures. Capcom was the victim of a similar breach which saw a lot of sensitive internal documents leaked, along with customer information.
