Chinese fans of the upcoming Pokemon Unite can get in on the action as the Pokemon Unite Closed Beta has been announced for it.

Thanks to ZhugeEx on Twitter, we can see a promotional QR code that would allow you access to the game in January 2021.

Don’t bother trying to scan it and get in yourself if you’re not from China, however. Aside from the obvious language barrier, you’ll also need to answer a questionnaire, which will require a Tencent QQ account. Tencent QQ is a Chinese social media app developed by Tencent.

Considering Pokemon Unite is being marketed globally, it’s safe to assume that more regional Pokemon Unite Closed Beta tests are incoming at a later date. Given the game’s development by TiMi and Tencent, it makes sense that the Chinese market would get a first crack at the game.

Also interesting in this announcement is the inclusion of Garchomp, who was previously unannounced as part of the game’s roster. The 4th Generation Dragon-type is a popular pick, having also been added to Pokken Tournament, which shares a lot of roster picks with Unite. Therefore, it makes sense that it’d also end up in the roster.

Pokemon Unite is the upcoming MOBA based on the Pokemon franchise. Rather than being all about pushing towers, the game has you capturing points along the map, more similar to games like Team Fortress and Overwatch. The game currently has no release date
