With more than 10mn views on bilbili alone and earning widespread Internet praise, Game Science, the developer for Black Myth: Wukong did not expect such a positive response towards its trailer. Instead of basking in the positive feedback, the team will now retreat into hiding to continue developing the game in peace, while also apologising the issues that made it to the pre-alpha gameplay.

Feng Ji, the founder of Game Science, via a Weibo post, stated that the the trailer was posted in order to attract potential members to join his team. While they remain happy with the initial response, he made it clear that the team will not let it get to their heads, also asking viewers of the trailer to forget about what they saw as it was not representative of their best work. He went on to point out the problems seen in the trailer, such as the low frame rate in one of the fights and how the water shown had no physical properties, as well as the soundtrack not quite being in sync with the action. He added the showcasing the trailer had another unwanted effect, as headhunters have begun approaching the team in a bid to poach them for other companies. He pleaded with them not do do so as the other developers are not exactly lacking in talent and would prefer to be left alone.

As for the game itself, Game Science are not giving a release window whatsoever, other than the game being out when it is ready. Black Myth: Wukong is to be made available for all popular consoles, although no western release has been confirmed. It will be some time before we will be hearing anything from the developer again, since it was made clear that everyone has gone back to work.
