Mixer to shut down, users to transition to Facebook Gaming

According to a Venture Beat article, Microsoft will be shutting down Mixer, its livestreaming service, on 22 July, and will be moving users over to Facebook Gaming. You can also read up on the updates regarding this closure and move on Microsoft’s Mixer blog and Facebook. Project xCloud streaming will also be provided to streamers moving to Facebook Gaming, a service to stream high-end games on any device.

Facebook Gaming partners will also receive Mixer Partner benefits, and likewise vice versa. Help will be provided to Mixer partners for smoother onboarding to their new platform. Project xCloud’s launch date is estimated to be in the summer, with selected Android users having had the opportunity to sign up for its testing stage.

Any currently remaining Embers or Sparks meant for use on Mixer will be doubled up for partners in earnings, while remainders for viewers will be compensated in an Xbox gift card.

The move to Facebook Gaming would be quite an interesting one. Malaysia has seen the biggest growth in the Southeast Asia region on the platform, and Project xCloud would be a big opportunity for the region – not to mention the whole world – when it comes to mobile gaming. We’d have to see once the Mixer to Facebook Gaming transition completes, and see how the environment shifts.
