Everything you need to know about WandaVision’s children

With the revelation of WandaVision’s new familial developments on Marvel’s latest trailer, some of you might be confused with the…logistics of how Scarlet Witch and Vision could possibly start a family. Here’s a little history lesson on everything you need to know about Scarlet Witch’s upcoming (potentially demon) babies in WandaVision.

Scarlet Witch and Vision made children in the comics

You might be thinking, what? How?! That’s literally biologically impossible. Unless Vision’s artificially synthesized body also comes with functional man-bits, that is. But that’s not a line of thought I’d like to delve too deep into. Anywho, the answer was simple: magic! In the comics, Wanda is a powerful spellcaster capable of powerful magic. It was said that her mutant powers to manipulate probability also gave her an affinity for spellcasting. She channeled the energy of other Salem witches, while being held by The Vision, and made a wish while she “felt his love all around her”. Which is kinda creepy, admittedly. That line didn’t age well. Despite that, Wanda and Vision were very happy that they were able to overcome something they deemed impossible.

Eitherway, Wanda has a relatively normal pregnancy and delivery, giving birth to a pair of baby twin boys: William and Tommy. Tommy is named after the creator of the original Human Torch (an android whose body became Vision). William was named after Simon Williams, the man whose brain Vision’s mind is based on (basically a copy-paste). In other words, the kids were named after the two external human aspects of Vision, the one thing that Vision definitely is not. That’s gotta sting…

The Twins Turn into Demon Baby Arms

You cannot make this stuff up. Marvel had some crazy stuff back in the day. Just like how Wanda’s powers have been retconned into genetic modification, her children’s origins were retonned too. Instead of it just being handwaved away as “magic”, there was a deep, dark secret. Wanda was so desperate to have children that she made magical constructs, then used slivers of Mephisto’s life essence to give her children souls. Mephisto was a powerful demon, and he later reclaimed those slivers by possessing a villain named Master Pandemonium. He then used Master Pandemonium’s body to reabsorb and thus, reclaim the life force and get back to full strength.

WandaVision is no more

Despite their love for each other, the fact that Wanda basically fabricated the two biggest lies in Vision’s life out a strain on their relationship. The rest of the Avengers and various superhero relationships were affected as well. Her memories of her children were repressed for a majority of comic history. And thus, WandaVision is no more, although they still have feelings for each other.

Reality Bending nonsense

As time passes on, Scarlet Witch’s mental stability…wasn’t the best. Various memory suppression, manipulation and mind repression started to make her a little loopy. This ultimately led to some world-changing consequences where Wanda remade the world so that mutants were the majority and humans were the minority. This world and comic arc was named House of M. Fortunately, some individual still remembered the original world and sought to restore the world to it’s proper state. In the end, however, during some heated confrontations, Scarlet Witch uttered three words that would forever change the Marvel universe.

She effectively removed all mutants’ M-Gene, effectively making mutants extinct. The fallout was terrible but with some help from Hope Summers and the Phoenix Force, everyone was able to slowly restore the world into it’s proper order.

Phoenix Force and the twins

The Phoenix Force arrived because of a huge change in reality. No matter how big a change, the Phoenix Force will try to restore the Earth back to how it rightfully should be. Apparently, one of those things appears to be Scarlet Witch’s children. Born as Billy Kaplan and Tommy Shepard (two different families), these two souls were actually thought to be the souls of the twins, William and Tommy.

Billy Keplan, known as The Wiccan, is a powerful, innate spellcaster. Meanwhile, Tommy Shepard, known as Speed, has…well…superspeed. Sounds familiar? Because that’s the same powerset as Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver!

There was a heartwarming reunion between Billy, Tommy and Wanda. And while Scarlet Witch did not take up a huge maternal role, they now stay in contact with each other. But let’s not judge too harshly, Vision isn’t exactly a great father figure in this situation, and wasn’t really an active part of the narrative.

Vision has his own family

Meanwhile, Vision is off having his own family after the whole “my children are fake” ordeal. In 2016, Vision got his own mini-series…and his own family! Using the brainwaves of Scarlet Witch (it was a gift from Wanda and this was done with her consent, of course), Vision made himself a wife to call his own, Virginia. And then, using a combination of Vision and Virginia’s brainwaves, Vision made another two children, a son named Vin and a daughter named Viv. The whole series actually starts off quite heartwarming, with some nice slice-of-life vibes. Unfortunately, things take a turn for the worse. One unfortunate event after another lead to the eventual suicide of Virginia and the murder of Vin. In the current comics, Vision and Viv still have a somewhat working father/daughter relationship, including a little teenage angst and rebellion!
