Grinding Gear Games has just announced that it will be bringing Path of Exile to the Android and iOS platforms. The announcement was made via its official YouTube channel during ExileCon 2019, the game’s very own convention.

In case you have no idea what the game is, Path of Exile is a hack and slash dungeon crawler that is in the same vein as Diablo. Picking from one of the many job classes, you will power through dungeons, killing monsters and collecting loot in the process. As the developer promised that this will pretty much be a one-to-one port, expect to be able to use one of six playable classes, namely Duelist, Marauder, Ranger, Shadow, Templar, and Witch.

The developer themselves posited that they are no fans of the current mobile gaming trends, but also admitted that it did face similar issues during development:

“Mobile games are kind of bullsh**, right?” Rogers cut to the quick in his introduction of Path of Exile Mobile. “Pay-to-win microtransactions, time gates, energy bars, random nag screens, notifications, video ads… there’s really a lot of evil garbage going on with mobile games today, but in 2012 when we first released Path of Exile on PC, you really could have said the same thing about a lot of free-to-play games there too. Back then, we really felt like we could do free-to-play on PC without all of that player-hostile stuff. So we thought, ‘you know, maybe we can do the same thing for mobile.’”

In any case, there is no release date yet for this version of the game, but the developer assured that it will be a standalone title that is not related to any other ones available at the moment. Given the high profile nature of this release, expect more details to come out from the developer sooner than later.
