It’s the first day of Penang Esport Festival 2019. Penang Esports Festival held several esports tournament and SOULCALIBUR is a part of that esports tournament. We managed to have an interview with Lionel Ong a Malaysian contestant who will be playing for SOULCALIBUR VI Asia League Penang.

Who is this gentleman, you may ask? He is known as Lionel Ong but you may known him for his IGN Neonfaith from INC Infinite Carnage. Infinite Carnage is one of the biggest organisation in Malaysian fighting games scene that was founded on November 13th 2011.  Infinite Carnage mainly taking care of the fighting games community for Malaysia. Lionel Ong has been playing SOULCALIBUR since the release of SOULCALIBUR 6 so he is relatively new to the SOULCALIBUR series compare to the other contestants.

Thanks to the efforts of Shen Chan, we have Asian Battle League which was held in Tokyo, Taiwan, Singapore and will be holding its final stage in Penang. SOULCALIBUR VI has been out for 10 months yet the growth of the SOULCALIBUR community has been growing rapidly. Too fast pace for our friend liking here. The top players of SOULCALIBUR VI may have been from Singapore but we Malaysians never like to lose especially to Singaporeans! Every time our friend Lionel here goes back and work hard to beat the Singaporeans next time. The Malaysian standards may have not matched with Singaporeans standards but we are getting there.

There will be a lot of strong players coming the second day of SOULCALIBUR Asia League such as 575 from Taiwan and ORS from Singapore. Both of these players mains the same character as Lionel which is the main antagonist of SOULCALIBUR VI, Nightmare. Lionel have not faced with 575’s Nightmare yet so ORS’s Nightmare will be a challenge to face for our friend here.

A tip from Lionel for those who wishes to compete for SOULCALIBUR is don’t consider loss as a loss. Instead thinking it as a loss, learn from your defeat and accept it as a lesson. That way you will never lose as you always learn from your mistake. The first day may not be his best performance but he realized that the only thing is holding back is himself so he will go all out on the next fight on the second day!
