When Sony confirmed that there is a new PlayStation console in the works, faster loading speed was promised. During Sony IR Day 2019, Sony gave a demonstration that gives us hope of a day without long loading screens.
In the video demo starring Marvel’s Spider-Man, the Sony PS4’s loading time for a scene was 8.1 seconds while the same scene loaded within 0.83 seconds on the next-gen console (assumed to be PS5). Next, the video showed how well the PS5 also deals with on-the-fly loading/rendering. While the PS4 Pro encountered a stutter midway, the PS5 ran the scene smoothly.
This is a positive step towards more immersive gaming experiences, which is a goal of Sony’s according to a press release from the company.
Thanks to Takahashi Mochizuki for sharing the demo video.
