Originally a joint-development by Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software, next year’s Call of Duty (COD) title is now a Treyarch-led project expected to be Black Ops 5.
According to Kotaku, this is a recent change. Sledgehammer and Raven will now be supporting Treyarch’s next project. However, the two studios prior efforts will not be wasted. The development work already put in will become the single-player story mode for Black Ops 5, which takes place during the Cold War.
Kotaku editor Jason Schreier also claims that sources within Activision attribute this change to tension between Sledgehammer and Raven. This tension is said to be caused by frequent disagreements over the game’s development between the two development teams. We have not received any official news on this, nor has there been any comments from Activision about this, so take all of this with a grain of salt.
