HONOR 8C, the first Snapdragon powered HONOR phone that comes in a ridiculously affordable price of only RM599 in Malaysia. Not only is it affordable, it is decently powerful enough for your day-to-day task and occasional gaming. We gave it a go to find out its design and performance, so here’s our HONOR 8C review.

The Design & Display

HONOR 8C comes in a variety of colours but Malaysia only has Gold, Black, and Blue in stock while the Purple did not make it. On this phone, it features the “Cat’s Eye” design that’s only available on the Blue HONOR 8C. This design gives off a shimmering gleam on the back of the phone which is honestly gorgeous and not those typical glossy looks on other phones.

Besides the looks, the phone has just enough weight on it giving it a premium touch and handling it feels rather nice and solid. However, there are times that I find it difficult to hold due to its large screen. Speaking of its large screen, it has a 6.26-inch and a 19:9 FullView Display with really thin bezels on a 7.98mm slim yet delicate body. At the side, slides out the card slots that’s capable of installing two SIM cards and a MicroSD card. Always convenient to have an extra slot for a SIM card!

The Camera & Smart Locks

As for the cameras on the phone, there’s a front camera on the bar-type notch along the core speaker, LED lights and sensor. While on the back, we have the f/1.8 aperture and a 13+2MP dual AI camera which befits the price range of the smartphone. Although the camera specs are not that impressive, it can still take amazing pictures and the f/1.8 aperture helps when there’s low-light scenario.

Moreover, there’s also the Finger-ID lock and Face unlock that works incredibly well than I’ve not expected it to be. As I unlock the phone through both the smart unlocks, it instantaneously reacts and opens, impressive.

The Performance

Performance-wise, HONOR 8C has a midrange Snapdragon 632 Octa-core processor and a 3GB RAM which performs well in day-to-day task but decently good enough for some occasional gaming. While testing out games like Standoff 2, Injustice 2 and PUBG Mobile, all of the games runs surprisingly well on it. With games like Injustice 2 that’s developed using Unreal Engine, it runs really smooth despite only having a 3GB RAM.

As for Standoff 2, a Counter-Strike-esque FPS game has over 50 FPS and never goes down even I played for a really long time. On the other hand, PUBG Mobile on HONOR 8C runs smooth but only on normal settings which is frankly good enough on it. The only downside of its performance is that the phone can’t run on graphics-intensive games for long as it might overclock the device and gets warm. So, you might get the warm touch from time to time when you play games like PUBG Mobile.

The Battery

For the battery, it has an impressive capacity of 4000 mAh which is a ridiculous amount despite its price. With capacity like this, multitasking and daily task is no problem at all, the same goes to long session of gaming. But then again, the phone may take up more than 2 hours to fully charge up because of how large the capacity is. So, having a powerbank might solve this problem.

Verdict

Honestly, with a price range of only RM599, this right here is an incredible phone. With beautiful designs and decent performance, it’s an ideal phone to those who wants a glamorous phone with specs for occasional gaming. Overall, I would definitely recommend it to those that are on a tight budget and still wants to game.
