Violence in video games has brought some of the world’s politicians into the spotlight, with the latest being Brazilian Federal Deputy Junior Bozzella. It has been one of the hottest topics recently, with the New Zealand mass shooting tragedy leading the conversation.

According to Brazilian website UOL, Bozzella reportedly wants a new law to be enforced in the future that would see violent video games getting banned and criminalized. The new bill, codenamed 1577/2019, will introduce a change to the country’s penal code that punishes people who are involved in activities related to violent video games such as developing and selling. Worse comes to worst, the punishment could be tripled if it involves mass media and the Internet . Punishments include three to six months in prison or fines.

Bozella continued by saying that violent video games are to be blamed for young individuals getting themselves involved in violence and crime. He also commented that the formation of violent and “disturbed” citizens is due to the exposure to violent video games.

The new law could also see a change in the Internet Civil Registry, with Bozella attempting to remove such unnecessary harmful content from all game stores in the country. If this new law does get approved in the future, it would certainly cause an uproar from the nation’s gaming community.

Brazil is a country that’s pretty well known when it comes to gaming and one example would be the professional CS:GO team, MIBR, which currently consists of a full Brazilian roster including TACO and coldzera. Not to mention that Brazilian football superstar, Neymar, sometimes gets in on the act as well by playing CS:GO during his spare time.
