Bandai Namco has first announced Super Robot Wars DD for mobile devices last November. During the recent Taipei Game Show 2019, we got the chance to have an interview with the producer, Masatoshi Akai and series producer, Takanobu Terada for more details into the mobile game.

Since the game is free-to-play, many players are concerned about the game’s gacha system – whether there will be other ways to get new mech and unit parts apart from gacha. The producers reassure that there are various in-game events being held from time to time, you can also get new mech or unit parts from log-in rewards. You can still complete your collection without investing any cash in the game.

Super Robot Wars DD features the auto-battle system this time. The producers tell us that this is for players’ convenience, as it might be not suitable to use a full turn-based system on a smartphone game. A speed-based system is more appropriate. There will be no limit on how many times you can use auto-battle.

We saw Devilman in the promotion videos and was curious why it is included in the game too. The producers say that they wished to add in Devilman since 20 years ago, but they were worried about the negative reactions from players who deem Devilman as a non-mecha series so they couldn’t do it. However, a number of non-mecha series has joined Super Robot Wars X-Omega and they think this is a good opportunity to finally feature Devilman in a Super Robot Wars game.

There are 4 different worlds in Super Robot Wars DD, while the protagonist is the witness of the 4 worlds. The reason why they are featuring 4 worlds is that they want fans from different era to enjoy the game together. You can choose the world you want to explore first at the beginning of the game.

Although there is no plan to include the original mechs from other series such as Super Robot Wars OG or Super Robot Wars Alpha yet, they would consider if there is a high demand from the fans. You can rest assured that there won’t be any stages that require a specific mech to access. In addition, the team will make sure that the game is well-balanced.

The team want to focus on Japan and Chinese versions of Super Robot Wars DD for now, so there is no plan for a release in SEA region (or global) yet. Also, despite the game has set its release window in 2019, the producers can’t guarantee that it is coming out within 2019 as the game is still in development.
