Super Robot Wars Y, the tactical turn-based strategy game known for bringing together a wide cast of mechs and pilots from across the mecha anime genre, is celebrating the franchise’s 35th anniversary with a free update and a new paid DLC pack.
The free update adds two commemorative missions. One marks the series reaching 20 million copies sold, while the other celebrates the 35th anniversary itself. Both missions can be unlocked by meeting certain conditions during Chapter 2 of the game. Alongside the new missions, the pilot level cap has been raised to 200, giving players more room to grow their characters. The update also introduces a new mode called BOOST, which doubles the Experience, Credit, and MXP players earn while also lowering the costs of aircraft modification and pilot training, making it easier to power up faster.
Releasing today alongside the update is the Anniversary Expansion Pack DLC. This paid content adds 33 new Area Missions along with a bonus “Anniversary Expansion Purchase” mission. Players who pick up the DLC will also get five new playable units, one new Assist Crew Member, and 12 new weapons that can be equipped across all units in the game.
Super Robot Wars Y puts players in command of the Guardians of Steel as they face down a looming, seemingly unavoidable catastrophe. The game is built around its large mecha roster, flashy attack animations, and a customization system that lets players upgrade both units and pilots. Its original story pulls together characters and settings from a range of mecha anime series into one connected narrative. Battles take place on a grid-based map, where players position their forces and use a mix of weapons and abilities to outmaneuver and defeat the enemy army.
With both the free update and the new DLC now live, Super Robot Wars Y players have fresh content to dig into as the series marks 35 years since its debut.
