After nearly two decades, Spyro the Dragon is making his return. Activision and developer Toys for Bob revealed Spyro: A Realm Beyond during the Xbox Games Showcase, announcing the fourth mainline entry in the long-running series. The game is set for a spring 2027 release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store.
The game puts Spyro in a brand new world after he finds himself stranded far from home. His journey back is cut short when a hostile invading force called the Scavs arrives, threatening the realm he has landed in. Players will need to help Spyro build new alliances and defend this new world before the Scavs can take it over for good.

One of the bigger highlights of the announcement is the addition of true dragon flight. Previous games in the series offered gliding and dedicated flight levels, but A Realm Beyond is built around full, open flight as a core part of how players move through the world.
Toys for Bob describes the ability to soar over landscapes, weave through treetops, dive off tall landmarks, and chain together moves like climbs, dives, and tight turns to travel through the world however players choose.

Tom Kenny, the voice actor behind the character from the original PlayStation trilogy, is confirmed to be returning as the voice of Spyro. Toys for Bob developed the game and describe it as a new evolution of the series, built for both newcomers and longtime fans of the franchise. While the studio says more details are on the way, the spring 2027 window gives players something concrete to look forward to as the purple dragon gears up for his first original adventure in a long time.
